BRT International Even a brief survey of planned or existing BRT lines around the world reveals that in virtually every corner of the globe, cities are increasingly looking to Bus Rapid Transit as a viable transit solution. Franklin EmX – Eugene and Springfield, OR
The just-opened Franklin Corridor EmX is a four-mile route between downtown Eugene and downtown Springfield that provides a vital link for that region’s transit system. It serves a large regional hospital and the University of Oregon—two of the biggest transit ridership generators in the entire system. Approximately 60% of the route has exclusive transitways, with the remainder running through mixed traffic with signal priority or queue jumper technology. Stations are spaced approximately a half-mile apart and boast a high level of amenities. The line uses a 60-foot, articulated bus with hybrid-electric propulsion and wide doors on both sides to allow boarding in median stations. Since it opened last month, ridership has exceeded projections by 70%. Franklin EmX line. Copyright 2007, Lane Transit District.
